Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study aims to analyze the institutional readiness of BMT UGT Nusantara Wongsorejo Banyuwangi Branch in adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) for financing decision-making systems based on Maqashid Shariah. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving branch managers, operational staff, financing officers, and cashiers of the BMT. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.

The findings reveal that institutionally BMT UGT Nusantara Wongsorejo Banyuwangi Branch demonstrates an initial level of readiness toward digital transformation, particularly in terms of management openness to the implementation of AI in financing systems. AI is perceived as capable of supporting data processing, administrative efficiency, and financing risk analysis. However, all informants emphasized that the final financing decision must remain under human authority because financing in BMT does not merely consider administrative data but also takes into account members character, social conditions, and public welfare values. The study also found that the implementation of AI in BMT still faces several challenges, including limited digital literacy among human resources, technological infrastructure constraints, and centralized policy authority from the head office. From the perspective of Maqashid Shariah, the most appropriate AI implementation model for BMT is human-centered artificial intelligence, in which AI functions as a decision-support system without eliminating the values of justice, humanity, and social welfare in Islamic financing practices.
